Healthy Eating

Students need to bring with them a packed morning tea & lunch with them to school each day. We encourage families to pack healthy food choices to sustain children’s energy levels whilst they are learning. Te Mata School embraces the ‘Project Energize‘ philosophy of healthy eating & physical activity program which follows the motto ‘Eat Healthy, Be Active, Have Fun’.

Project Energize is funded by the Waikato District Health Board. Energize staff are available to help schools with a whole range of programmes and projects that encourage healthy eating and physical activity. For example:

  • Help promote healthy eating
  • Provide information on healthier food choices for lunches and snacks
  • Assist teachers in providing varied and quality daily exercise activities
  • Encourage children to choose more active play options at home

The programme is tailored to each school. Working with Energize, schools develop their own plan in consultation with the children, teachers, parents and wider school community.

Everyday Drinks

‘Water is the BEST DRINK CHOICE for children as it meets hydration needs, contains no energy or sugar that can damage teeth and it is cheap & easy to get’. Project Energize.

Breakfast Bonanza

‘Eating a nutritious breakfast every day kickstarts bodies and brains, so children can learn and play and adults can have enough energy to get through the day.’  Project Energize.

Low Cost Lunchboxes

‘Research has shown that lunches bought from home are likely to be more cost effective & healthy than lunches brought from school..’. Project Energize.

Be Snack Wise

‘Snacks are part of our everyday day eating as they help to keep energy levels up and hunger pains at bay’! Project Energize.
